How fun to meet Blythe peeps! It was my first Blythe Meet and I had a wonderful time at the Botanical Gardens in Montreal with April/elasticcamel, Corina/treaclemineroad, Mike, April’s boyfriend, and our special guest, Melissa/cybermelli, who was kind enough to drive long hours and come to meet us! Thank you again so much, Melissa, for your visit last Monday!

The Montreal team. From left to right: Mike, April, Corina, Melissa and me.
I already knew a lot about Melissa and her collection thanks to her interview, but it was so nice to meet her and see how confident she is with taking Blythe pictures in public. This was totally new to me, and Melissa really inspired me because I always go to places where I am sure that no human being is around!

We started with a few scary events. First, some people started to take the dolls, just as if they were displayed on a shelf in a store as I was still installing mine on the bench. They thought they were for sale! Lol! Everybody was in shock because we didn’t expect that.

Then Melissa had serious problems with her camera. And finally Fleur nearly feel into the pond because it was very windy! But nothing didn’t prevent us from having fun and enjoy being together with our dolls on a sunny day. If you want to see lovely pictures of the Botanical Gardens, have a look at April‘s pictures.

As you know, I always love to know how people discovered Blythe. For April, it was 6 years ago: “The first time I saw Blythe was in Bust magazine–it is a Feminist magazine that focuses more on culture. The article was on grown women who play with dolls, and Blythe was one of the dolls featured”. And Corina discovered Petite Blythe first, and she then acquired her first regular size Blythe in 2008.
And I am also always interested to ask people why they like Blythe dolls. As we are all different kinds of collectors, the reasons can be very diversified too. April told me: “What I like the most about collecting Blythe is how Blythe is a great way to express creativity and to witness the creativity of others. In photos Blythe can be cute and funny or hauntingly beautiful depending on how her human chooses to dress, customize, or photograph her. I love how little independent businesses have grown to make clothing and accessories for Blythe, and how people customize them to transform them into their own vision of plastic beauty. I also love how my dolls have become like characters for me, with their own personalities and styles. I hope to make my own customized doll sometime. I am also slowly working on a project, perhaps a thesis, on the differences between Asian and North American doll culture and what they reflect about society, fashion, and values. Blythe has really been an inspiration to me!”

The Botanical Gardens in Montreal are such a beautiful place. I really loved them!
And the final word is for Mike, who notices that there are no mixed feelings about Blythe. You are either hooked or not interested at all because she is so much more than just a doll.

AWWW, Fanny! Your first Blythe Meet is SO special! I am happy that you all got together! AND one of the times we were having a blythe meet in Boulder, and we spread the girls out on a bench, a woman asked us if they were for sale too! It made me laugh! It is funny how people think that!
I forgot to say that I LOVE reading your article and seeing these gorgeous pictures!
What an atmospheric, lively, fun and beautiful post! I posted it to my Facebook! All of you girls and Mike too (of course!) look adorable with your lovely, beautifully dressed Blythes! No wonder people started trying to take them as you were lining them up! They are irresistable! I recognize so many of the gorgeous outfits and that gave me a lot of pleasure…to know that even though I am far away, I love the same dolls and the same things that you all do! It was great fun to read this!
