Mademoiselle Blythe’s blog turned 1 today and I couldn’t be happier! My love story with Blythe started slowly even though it was love at first sight in November 2008. Then, it took me 6 months to take the plunge and buy my first dolls in May 2009 and then 4 more months to take my very first dolly pictures in September 2009, even a few days after publishing the first post about the wonderful world of Blythe!

Anyway, here is where I am now, proudly owning a collection of 10 dolls I am very happy with and it is so funny to have a look at the past year. Some of you might have experienced the same thing: I am still surprised how much my taste changed over less than a year. First, I was like a kid in a toy store, wanting each and every single BlytheI could see. Then, looking day after day at all the beautiful dolly pictures on Flickr, I found my own path.
My first dolls, Prima Dolly Aubrena and Frosty Frock, both stock, have been customized a few months after I received them and are no longer with me. I discovered with them that I it is difficult for me to bond with stock girls on the long run and that I was more a “sucker for customs” as Shannon Taylor would say. Custom girls are OOAK and I like the fact that they look closer to human beings with their unique features, regarding hair (reroots) as well as eyes (hand painted chips) and face up. The possibilities and differences are endless!

Goldent tints: My best dolly picture according to my Blythe friends.
Melacacia custom. Feltland & Atelier Matin.
After realizing my passion for customs, I found myself falling in love with Kenners too. It is weird how these dolls look like perfection to me even though none of them is perfect due to their age and their lives before us. Beauty is in the imperfections!

My plans for my second year with Blythe? Attempting to keep this blog still alive in 2011 and improve my photographic skills. Photography is definitely my favored way to express how much I love Blythe, and it is also so much fun to plan pictures ahead, go out with the girls for a walk, find the right spot, set up everything, and… click!

Congratulations on reaching this milestone Fanny! I agree it is fascinating to look back over a year or more and see how one’s path has moved and changed. I look forward to reading and seeing how your hobby and collection develops over the coming year – what fun!
You wrote such a great contemplation/memoir for us!!! It has so many revelations of your path and how far you have come since the beginning of your discivery of Blythe.
I have a harder time letting go of some of my stock girls. I have yet to get the Kenner yearning, but I really understand it.
As for customs , I love them, as you may know!

Congrats on your blog reaching a one year mark! Such an exciting way to document your blythe growth! I can’t believe I am now reaching about 30 dolls and just begging to get into customizing some of my girls. Lol and yes I agree ooak customized dolls are quite incredible I have one special girl and I just gave my PD Aubrena sleep eyes. You have great taste having one of Melacacia girls. I have bid on 3 and one have got one of them if I hadn’t been in a car coming back from the coast and still not very mobile savvy, Lol! I look forward to reading more of your interviews. – rhubs
